If you are flying into Kenya or even leaving the country and are looking for a hotel close to the airport to spend the night in after or before your flight (accordingly), then Lazizi Premiere has got you covered. Opened in March 2017, The Lazizi Premiere is the first airport hotel in Kenya. It is located within Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, a short minutes’ drive to the arrival and departure terminals. If you know anything anything about Nairobi’s traffic, then you know that an airport hotel is a life saver! I got the chance to tour the new hotel the same week it opened and here is what I thought of the new establishment.
Upon entry into the hotel, on the left is Velocity, a bar and on the right are Aroma, a coffee shop and Kitchen 9 the hotel restaurant. For guests arriving at the hotel when the restaurant is closed, they can have a snack at the Aroma which opens 24 hours. The restaurant and coffee shop are open to walk in customers so you can enjoy a meal as you wait your loved one’s flight to arrive.
Also on the ground floor are some swanky seats where guests can rest as they await check in and meeting rooms for any workshops and seminars. And when you look up, there is the most gorgeous solar-powered cyclical chandelier that lights up beautifully at night! The contemporary art displayed throughout the hotel is truly stunning!
You know that this is an airport hotel when there is a board that shows a real time schedule of the arrival and departure flights. There is definitely no chance of missing a flight while staying at Lazizi!
Lazizi offers 144 rooms in the following categories: superior rooms, deluxe rooms, premium rooms, Lazizi Premiere rooms and Lazizi Premiere suites. Each room has a mini fridge, writing desk, a television showing international channels and an en-suite bathroom. The hotel’s colour scheme comprises mostly of brown and beige however I love the mustard seat and pillows that add a splash of colour to the rooms!
Here, you don’t have to struggle to figure out which room you are in because the room numbers are lighted along the hallway.
The Sky View Lounge is a cool seating area to relax or to have an informal meeting.
On the fourth floor are Euphoria, the spa and the gym for anyone who wants to have those kinks worked on after a long flight or just to work out during their stay at the hotel.
I love the rooftop swimming pool which is 1.2m deep and overlooks the serene airport environs. The poolside bar is a great place to hang out and while the day away.
After the tour, we were invited to lunch at Kitchen 9 restaurant. As I mentioned earlier, I visited the hotel within the hotel’s opening week. The food was not quite there – I found it filling but rather bland however we were assured the chef is working on it and will have gotten it right when we make our next visit!
If you find yourself at the airport or are travelling in or out of the country, try Lazizi Premiere for a filling meal and/or a convenient stay!
P/S: The hotel has since rebranded to Crowne Plaza Nairobi Airport.
