When I toured south coast last year, I had the opportunity to lunch and check out Afrochic Diani Beach, a house located on Kenya’s most popular beach spot. Once a private home now opened to welcome guests, Afrochic is a homely retreat for those who prefer a cosy abode for their vacation. The lodge’s exterior, painted mustard yellow, presents such a cheerful facade especially against the Diani sun.
Afrochic has just ten rooms in a bi-level building – 5 deluxe ocean rooms, 3 deluxe garden rooms, 1 junior suite and 1 executive suite . Each of the garden and ocean view rooms are uniquely furnished – some in animal prints while others in tribal ones. Tribal art and Swahili furnishings play a big part of the hotel’s decor and you will notice this on the stair case, the rooms and the lounge. I love the paintings on the walls!

The hotel provides baby cots for little ones.
The lounge and dining room all face the pool and the sea beyond. The lounge feels very much like a home where you can settle on a comfortable seat with your favourite book at hand. There are plenty of sun loungers and wicker seats around the hotel where guests can while the day away.
We had lunch by the poolside though guests can choose to have it at their location of choice whether it is on their room balconies, or at the dining table, on the beach or in the garden. Very neat plating, the portion though 🙂
If you are looking for a small establishment as a solo traveller, or for a couple then Afrochic is it. You will get all the beach time you want as the hotel is right on Diani Beach, and best of all, there are such few people to share it with!
Let me know of your experience when you visit!
