When Betty invited me to her new business address, I knew it was a golden opportunity to check out the new Concord Hotel & Suites. Located at Wangapala Road in Parklands, the 86-roomed hotel is a landmark in this part of Nairobi. It is situated close to the Diamond Shopping Plaza and the Aga Khan Hospital.
It’s the first hotel in the city I have been welcomed by Maasai dancing! Its mostly done by out of town lodges and camps. Walk in the spacious lobby and you’re met by this multi-coloured zebra, a wall water feature and some comfortable seats to rest as you wait to check in.

ROOMS
Spread over several floors are superior rooms, suites and a penthouse. The carpeted rooms are spacious and feature double or twin beds, bed side lighting and charging points. Above each bed headboard is a brightly coloured painting of an animal. A round mirror hangs above a writing desk which is placed next to a flat screen television mounted on the wall. On the desk is a telephone that connects you to the rest of the hotel and a cute desk lamp.

The rooms and suites have en-suite bathrooms – the suites have bathtubs while the rooms have showers only. A blow drier, wall mounted shaving mirror, shaver socket and vanity sink are some of the amenities found in the bathroom. The toiletries in each bathroom include a sewing kit which comes in handy at the most unexpected moments, say when a button pops!

A closet holds a bathrobe, hangers and a safe. Next to it is a table holding tea and coffee making facilities and a luggage rack.
One thing I appreciated about The Concord is that they have ramps in addition to the staircases to facilitate movement of individuals with mobility challenges.
SWIMMING POOL
I have two favourite locations at the Concord. The first is the gorgeous swimming pool! The in-door pool located on the 7th floor has spanning views of Parklands and the Karura Forest in the distance. The pool is heated which makes it perfect for the little ones and folks prone to respiratory illnesses due to the cold. It also has a canvas cover that gives swimmers privacy from eyes on the upper floors. I cannot imagine anyone staying at the hotel and not taking advantage of this beautiful pool!

GYM AND SPA
A few steps above the pool is a well-equipped gym that also comes with a personal trainer for anyone who wants to keep fit during their stay. The spa is just the place to get that much anticipated his-and-hers massage or sauna session.

RESTAURANTS
If you are in the Parklands area and are looking for a restaurant to have a lunch, dinner or just a coffee, look no further than the restaurants at the Concord. The hotel has three specialty restaurants: Curry Flavours serves the best of Indian Cuisine; Umami is the place to indulge in Oriental dishes while Bonhomie will serve you continental meals. Sip a cup of the best coffee at the Aroma Mocha Coffee Shop. The Pied Piper is your go to for a meal with a side of your favourite sheesha.

BAR
My second favourite location at The Concord is the Aer Lounge. It has got to be the coolest and chicest hangout I’ve come across lately. Everything about this open lounge is sweet. The white seats, the stocked bar, the picturesque views over Karura Forest. The Aer is the place to hang out on a warm evening and even on a cool night, burners have been placed at the corners to keep you warm and toasty.
In addition to the above facilities, The Concord also has a conference hall for those meetings, conferences and seminars.
Go to The Concord to savour a meal (they have Sunday all-you-can-eat brunch), to take advantage of the gym, sauna and pool or better still for a staycation for yourself or with your loved one.
